Golf Courses in Abilene, TX
With a population approaching 125,000 residents, Abilene is the main hub of a 19-county region of Texas known as “The Big Country.” The city is home to Abilene Christian University, a vast medical center and, as you might expect, plenty of attractions to celebrate Abilene's old west and frontier history, including Buffalo Gap Historic Village, Fort Phantom Hill and Frontier Texas. The area also has its share of golf, both public and private. Maxwell Municipal Golf Course is a 1934 Dave Bennett design that offers tee times to the public. Diamondback Golf Club is another public option. It opened in 1999 and plays around 7,000 yards from the tips. Military course Mesquite Grove Golf Course, which is located on Dyess Air Force Base, is another public option. The private golf scene is led by Abilene Country Club, which has two championship 18-hole golf courses.
